Vincenzo Scarpetta with Nova Race moves from GT Cup ‘league title’ to GT3 Sprint challenge
The young driver from Campania is the first one confirmed by the Varese-based team for the Honda NSX GT3 Evo line-up
The first weekend of the Italian Gran Turismo racing season for Nova Race is approaching, being scheduled on the first weekend of May at Misano Adriatico, on the Romagna track named after Marco Simoncelli. When one month is missing to the start of the Championship in its Sprint version, the team from Varese is now able to announce the first protagonist that will compete with the opponents on the Honda NSX GT3 Evo.
Christian Pescatori, Team Manager of the team, reveals the name of a driver who is about to make his GT3 debut: ‘I am very pleased to confirm that for the entire GT3 Sprint season we will have Vincenzo Scarpetta in our team. He is a driver who had done well in his career in karting and who, having moved up to covered-wheel motor racing, has made himself immediately noticed. We were also privileged to be able to grasp his potential because he was a winner in the GT Cup Championship, which shares the paddock and the Italian calendar with our major activity in GT3, so it was easy to see him at work. We would also like to see him on track in other areas, but for the moment let’s take it one step at a time and start with the certainty of having him in the Sprint series.
Scarpetta, originally from Portici, is a student in his penultimate year of high school who will reach the age of majority next July; he started racing in karting at the end of 2015 and distinguished himself in the Rotax Junior category at first, and then in the X30 Junior and Senior classes, achieving good results in both regional and national challenges. Last year he successfully made the transition to Gran Turismo and, with a Prancing Horse car, his debut proved to be a winning one with the solo title obtained in the GT Cup Sprint series, made possible by an excellent season finale with three AM category successes.
THE COMMENT OF THE DRIVER
VINCENZO SCARPETTA (driver Honda NSX GT3 Evo) ‘First of all I’m really satisfied to be again in the Italian Gran Turismo and especially for the first time in GT3 thanks to the support I’ll have from Nova Race, after winning in the GT Cup. For me it’s already a great success to be able to measure myself at a high level with the professionals of this category that represents the maximum that GT proposes and it would be really nice to be able to find space among them in a stable way getting good results’.
